This alabaster and marble monument is to Ambrose Dudley (d1590), 3rd earl of Warwick. It consists of a effigy of a knight with his head resting on mat, with the Warwick bear is at his feet. The tomb chest contains heraldic shields around its sides. on a tomb chest with pilasters and angled columns.
Ambrose was the elder brother of Robert Dudley earl of Leicester. He had been arrested and imprisoned in the Tower of London when his father attempted to establish Lady Jane Grey as Queen of England in 1553. He was condemned to death but reprieved, and fought for Philip II of Spain the husband of Mary I, at the Battle of St Quentin during the Franco-Habsburg War.
