Bishop Freke, Worcester cathedral, tudor tomb

Edmund Freke (d1591) was Bishop of Norwich (1575-1584), Bishop of Worcester (1584 -1591), and chaplain to Queen Elizabeth I. Whilst Bishop of Norwich he found Mathew Hamont guilty of "denying Christ to be our Saviour" for which Hamont was burnt at the stake.

The monument is signed by Anthony Tolly, and is thought to be the first time that a craftsman signed his work in England.
