Tomb of the cardinals of Amboise - Rouen Cathedral
Primary tabs

Started in 1515, and completed in 1525, this tomb is an early example of French Renaissance art by Rouen cathedral's master mason, Roullant Le Roux. The monument is a memorial to the French Cardinal George d'Amboise (d1510) archbishop of Rouen, and his nephew George d'Amboise (d1550) who, on the death of his uncle, took the post of archbishop of Rouen, and who also became a cardinal in later life. The two priant figures are kneeling with their hands raised in prayer.
Whilst below them are six statues representing faith, charity, prudence, power, justice and temperance.
Behind the two cardinals is a bas-relief of St George slaying a dragon, and in the niches on either side are figures of the Virgin and Child and a number of saints including that of St Romain.
