The Nutmeg Moth
The Nutmeg (Anarta trifolii)

Anarta is a genus of Noctuidae moths. These moths are generally medium-sized and rather cryptically coloured, often in shades of gray, brown, or black, sometimes with contrasting markings. The patterns tend to be mottled, which provides camouflage against bark, rocks, or soil. Like many noctuids, they have stout bodies and relatively narrow forewings compared to the hindwings. The Caterpillars typically feed on herbaceous plants, though host plants vary depending on the species. Several species are adapted to cold or harsh climates, making them important in studies of ecological specialization.
