The order Odonata consists of the Dragonflies and Damselflies. A downloadable list of all the world species can be found at the University of Puget Sound.

These medium to large insects are predatory and the larvae have been used as a control on mosquito larvae. However they are not of major importance in pest control.

Divided into two groups the Anisoptera (dragonflies) and Zygoptera (damselflies), these  insects, along with butterflies, are symbolic of summer and feature prominently in art.
