These are the Forester and burnet moths. A family of day flying moths with over 800 species worldwide 10 of which are recorded in the UK. These are slow flying, and bright coloured moths. The metalic colouration is a typical aposematic signal to warn that they are unpleasant to eat and are poisonous to non-insect predators as both the larvae and adults contain hydrogen cyanide.
