This medium moth is a member of the family of Tigers, Ermines, Footmen and allies (Arctiids). The wingspan is 28-32mm and the sooty grey male is nocturnal. However, the femals are white and mostly fly during the day.

The abdomen of the moth is speckled white or grey brown.
