Based in Reims and establish in around 1640 by Pierre Simon this family of glass makers is one of the 10 oldest companies in France. The company is currently run by Benoît Marq, the son of Brigitte Simon (daughter of Jacques Simon) and Charles Marq, making him the twelfth generation to run this family firm.

Strophosoma is a genus of Nut Weevils in the family Curculionidae. Members of this genus are polyphagous and can be pests of both conifers and deciduous trees, such as Abies procera and Abies nordmanniana (Christmas trees), beech and oak.

Galland and Gibelin

In 1893 the painter Jacque Galland and glassmaker Espirt Gibelin won a competition to create 10 stained glass windows, at Orleans Cathedral, depicting the life of Joan of Arc.

Above the choir screen at Chartres Cathedral are some 40 sculpted reliefs of biblical scenes, and other scenes from the life of the Virgin Mary . The scenes were sculpted by some of the best artists in France and were commissioned at different times over a 200 year period from 1510 to 1720.

Noah Window

This early 13th century window depicts the story of Noah, was donated to the Cathedral of Chartres by the town's carpenters, wheelwrights, and coopers.

 

 

Black Madonna - Chartres Cathedral

 

This image shows the Virgin and Child of Chartres Cathedral, commonly known as the Black Madonna of Chartres (Notre-Dame du Pilier). It is one of the most venerated Marian sculptures in France and a central focus of devotion within the cathedral. It was commissioned in 1508 as a black wooden copy of the 13th century silver Madonna that stood on the main altar at Chartres Cathedral.

Lobin Studios

Lobin studios operated from 35 rue des Ursulines in Tour at between 1853 and 1892. The family business was started by Julien Léopold Lobin(1814-1864), and run by his son Lucien Léopold Lobin (1837-1892) after 1864. The company also worked with other glass makers including a long relationship with Jean-Prosper Florence.
