Resurrection and afterwards Medieval Stained Glass Evreux Cathedral

 

This window was donated to the Cathedral by King Louis XI of France in 1467-1469. It's eight panels depicts events from the Resurrection to the Last Judgement of Christ.1

 

Resurrection Medieval Stained Glass Evreux Cathedral

 

The top left panel depicts the resurrection, with Jesus rising above the sleeping guards.

 

Ascension Medieval Stained Glass Evreux Cathedral

 

The next panel to the right depicts the Ascension, with the disciples looking upwards.

 

Pentecost Medieval Stained Glass Evreux Cathedral

 

Pentecost is next with the Holy Spirit as a dove descending on the disciples.

 

Last Judgement Medieval Stained Glass Evreux Cathedral

 

The final panel in the top register of the window depicts the Last Judgement with Christ in heaven, angels blowing trumpets and the awakening.

The Harrowing of Hell is depicted in the leftmost panel of the lower part of the window. Not mentioned in the bible the Harrowing of Hell is an 8th century invention where Christ is supposed to have released the Righteous of the Old Testament along with Adam and Eve from Hell.2

The next panel depict the Supper at Emmaus where on the day of the Resurrection Christ revealed himself to two of his disciples.3

 

Mary Magdalene Recognises Jesus Medieval Stained Glass Evreux Cathedral

 

The next panel shows the scene where Mary Magdalene, carry a jar of oil, meets a gardener and recognises him as Jesus.4

 

Doubting Thomas

 

The final panel at the bottom right of the window shows St Thomas putting his hand into the wound in Christ's side.5
