A colossal alabaster monument almost as high as the north wall. Includes a skeletal gissant at the bottom. Built in 1598 by Richard & Gabriel Royley of Burton-upon-Trent.

The Gothic period is characterized by the early simplicity of naturalistic figures to the late excessively enriched elegance and elaborate clothing of the figures in the later period, the subject matter of Gothic sculpture featured the mysticism of the mid to late medieval age with an emphasis on suffering and emotion.
The Hedda stone, in Peterborough Cathedral, dated to about 870AD. It contains the carved figures of twelve monks, and is thought to represent those killed in Danish raids.

This polychromatic stone Holy Sepulchre in the church of Notre-Dame Neufchâtel-en-Bray dates from the mid C15.
This tomb of Hugh and Elizabeth, in the chancel of Tewkesbury Abbey, is of alabaster and the effigies are portraits of them both. The canopy once contained 26 statutes and was considered one of the finest in England.
