East Window - Market Bosworth Leicestershire
Primary tabs

This east window at St. Peter's Church in Market Bosworth, was created by Charles E. Kempe in 1900 (with later contributions from the Kempe and Tower studio), 1 is a five-light stained-glass composition in a tall Gothic lancet frame. It depicts key scenes from the early life of Christ: the Annunciation in the leftmost light, showing the angel Gabriel announcing to Mary (clothed in blue) amid a landscape with architectural details; the central light features the Madonna and Child, with Mary holding the infant Jesus; and the rightmost light portrays the Adoration of the Magi (Epiphany), with the three kings offering gifts before the Holy Family. The upper tracery includes figures of saints in niches, angels, and symbolic elements like a radiant star. The design uses Kempe's characteristic rich, dark palette of blues, reds, and golds, with intricate detailing in foliage, scrolls (including Latin inscriptions like "Ave Maria Gratia Plena"), and heraldic motifs, framed by ornate stonework in the chancel.
