This fresco of the "Scourging of Christ" is by Fra Angelico in cell 4 of the San Marco, Florence novice accommodation. St Dominic flagellates himself whilst observing the scene, by emphasing the Dominican Order's focus on prayer, study, and penance the image invites the cell's occupant to emulate the martyr.
