Pale Eggar Moth

Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Arthropoda
Class: Insecta
Order: Lepidoptera
Family: Lasiocampidae
Genus: Trichiura
Species: T. crataegi
Common name: Pale Eggar
Flight Season: August–September

These are medium-sized and heavily hairy moths, similar to others in the eggar family. The wings are generally pale brown to greyish, with some darker patterning and often a faint white crossline on the forewings. Both sexes are similar, though males may be slightly smaller and have more feathery antennae. The adult's its primary role is reproduction, and as such they do not feed.

The species is single-brooded and widespread but declining due to habitat loss. Local populations can be irregular, and it faces threats from modern land management practices like excessive mowing and marsh drainage, echoing broader ecological concerns seen with species like the drinker moth (Euthrix potatoria).
