Bourges Cathedral Stained Glass

The Cathedral of St Stephen, Bourges contains a large number of medieval and renaissance stained glass. The glass panels date from 1210 - 1620 and represents Saints, Apostles, Prophets, and Bible stories.

 

The above rose window in the west of the church was built in the last part of 14th century.

Bigitte Simon (1926) first worked with her father Jacques Simon, before working in Paris where she met and married Charles Marq. By 1957 Bigette and Charles had taken over the company and collaborated with contemporary artists, including Marc Chagall, to create works for religious buildings.

Memorial window, by CE Kempe, dedicated to Reverend Thomas Farebrother (d1896), Mary Anne Farebrother (d1884), and George Farebrother (d1892).

Canons of Loches

This window, at Tours cathedral, is dated to the last part of the 13th century, was donated to Tours Cathedral by the Canons of the Collegiate church at Loches in commemoration for the Treaty of Paris (1259) between Louis IX of France and Henry III of England.

 

 

Chancel Windows - All Saints, Brixworth

The two windows in the north wall of the chancel in the Saxon church of All Saints, Brixworth are by Burlison & Grylls, dated 1913 and 1915, they are from the first quarter of the 20th century.

 

 

Chancel Windows - Tewkesbury Abbey

The stained glass windows in the chancel of Tewkesbury Abbey are all from between 1338 and 1340. They were most probably a gift to the Abbey by Eleanor Despenser (nee de Clare) the wife of Hugh Despenser the Younger. Eleanor is thought to be the person depicted in the panel here.

Chapel of the Sacred Heart - Beauvais Cathedral

The Sacred Heart Chapel in Beauvais Cathedral contains this stained glass window by Engrand le Prince. It was commissioned in 1522 by Louis de Roncherolles chamberlain and councillor to Francis I of France.
