This is a list of stories and concepts described in the bible. Accounts from both old and new testament passages are listed here.

  • Last-Judgement

    In Christian belief this is the final and eternal judgement by God of all nations at the end of history.

  • Last-Supper

    In Christian belief this was the final meal that Jesus shared with his disciples.

  • Madonna-and-Child

    A representation of Mary with the infant Jesus.

  • Marriage-at-Cana

    The first miracle attributed to Jesus in the Gospel of John, in which he turns water into wine.

  • Massacre-of-the-Innocents

    The killing of infants in and around Bethlehem, ordered by King Herod out of fear that a newborn king would threaten his rule.

  • Nativity

    The events surrounding the actual birth of Christ. The Annunciation, and Epiphany are dealt with separately.

  • Passion-Cycle

    The Passion cycle refers to a series of artistic representations, commonly found in medieval and Renaissance painting, sculpture, stained glass, and manuscript illumination, that narrate the final episodes of Christ’s life.

  • Pieta

    In Christian art, a scene in which the Virgin Mary holds the dead body of Jesus.

  • Presentation-in-the-Temple

    In the Gospel of Luke, the episode in which Jesus is presented at the Temple following Mary’s purification, and Simeon recognises him as a light to the world.

  • Prodigal-Son

    The Prodigal Son is a biblical parable illustrating themes of forgiveness, redemption, and unconditional love.

  • Raising-of-Lazarus

    Lazarus, the brother of Martha and Mary of Bethany, is raised from the dead by Jesus four days after his burial.

  • Resurrection

    Biblical story central to Christianity which tells of Jesus coming back to life after being executed by crucifixion at Golgotha.

  • Revelations

    The Book of Revelation, the final book of the New Testament, describing visions of the end times and the return of Christ.

  • Salvator-Mundi

    A theme in Christian art depicting Christ as Saviour of the World, holding an orb representing the world and raising his right hand in blessing.

  • Sermon-on-the-Mount

    Images depicting the Sermon on the Mount, in which Jesus delivers a series of teachings recorded in the Gospels.

  • Teaching-the-Virgin-to-Read

    A devotional theme depicting the Virgin Mary as a child being taught to read, usually by her mother Saint Anne.

  • Touch-me-not

    A depiction of the risen Christ appearing to Mary Magdalene and instructing her not to touch him, from John 20:17.

  • Transfiguration

    The Transfiguration refers to the event in the New Testament when Jesus was visibly transformed, revealing his divinity to the disciples Peter, James, and John.

  • Tree-of-Jesse

    A depiction of the ancestors of Christ starting from the father of King David, Jesse of Bethlehem.

  • Visitation

    The visit to Hebron by the Virgin Mary to St Elizabeth who was pregnant with John the Baptist.
