Cantharidae
Primary tabs

The Cantharidae family, commonly known as soldier beetles, is a group of small to medium-sized beetles in the order Coleoptera. These beetles have soft, elongated, and somewhat flattened bodies, often brightly colored with combinations of red, yellow, and black. Unlike many beetles, their wing covers (elytra) are soft and flexible, giving them a leathery appearance. The soldier beetles are harmless to humans and are often considered helpful insects due to their role in natural pest control and pollination.
These beetles are commonly found on flowers, foliage, and decaying wood. Where the adults feed on nectar, pollen, and small insects, while larvae are predatory, living in soil or leaf litter. This means that the Cantharidae play an important role in pollination and in controlling pest populations, as both adults and larvae feed on small insects. They
Mostly they are soft-bodied, elongate beetles, and brightly coloured, as a warning to predators, with filiform (thread-like) antennae.
