Papacy of Pope Callistus II begins 1119

On the 2nd of February 1119, following the death of Pope Gelasius II, Guy de Bourgogne is elected Pope Callistus II by nine cardinals who took part in the election at Cluny as most of the other cardinals were in Rome. During his papacy he resolved the long-standing Investiture Controversy between the Rome and the Holy Roman Empire.
