The carved wooden panel representing Fortitude, with arm resting on a pillar, can be found as part of the reredos in the church of St Lawrence Shotteswell, Warwickshire. The reredos is constructed of a number of wooden 17th century Flemish panels.1

 

he wooden panel depicts the virtue of Fortitude, intricately carved in a classical style. The central figure is a robed warrior standing confidently, holding a column in one hand as a symbol of strength and stability, and a shield in the other, representing defense and resilience.
