Bigitte Simon (1926) first worked with her father Jacques Simon, before working in Paris where she met and married Charles Marq. By 1957 Bigette and Charles had taken over the company and collaborated with contemporary artists, including Marc Chagall, to create works for religious buildings.
The first three windows were installed in the south transept near the baptismal font at Reims cathedral in 1961. They caused a controversy when they were first installed as the local people thought that they were too modern for the ancient cathedral.
These grisailles in the north transept represent fire, earth and air were installed between 1978 and 1981.
