John the Baptist - Upper Boddington, Northamptonshire

A narrative stained-glass window of 1885 by Burlison & Grylls occupies the east bay of the north aisle.

  • Left-hand light:
St John the Baptist , accompanied by two male figures, points toward Christ in the foreground, emphasising John’s role as the Forerunner who identifies the Messiah.

  • Right-hand light:
Salome receives the head of St John the Baptist on a gold platter, depicting the moment of the saint’s beheading and martyrdom.

  • Tracery:
An angel bears a shield charged with the Agnus Dei, linking John’s witness and death to the sacrificial mission of Christ.

The window is characterised by clear narrative sequencing, firm draughtsmanship, and architectural canopies framing each scene, typical of Burlison & Grylls’ confident late-Victorian Gothic Revival style.
