Knollys and Wife - Stanford-on-Avon

Alabaster memorial to Henry Knollys (d1583) and his wife Margaret Cave (d1600). He lies on a rolled up mat, she lies on her side below. Their two daughters kneel on the left and right. Parish church of St. Nicholas, Stanford-on-Avon, Northamptonshire.

Henry Knollys was the brother-in-law, by way of his sister Lettice, to Walter Devereux, Earl of Essex, and was part of Devereux party in Ireland in 1574. He was most likely part of the massacre of Brian MacPhelim O’Neill of Clandeboye, his wife and 200 clansmen in Belfast.1
