Monument by Samuel Baldwin of Stroud, dedicated to Thomas Machen (d1614), Christian Baston his wife and 13 children. Thomas Machen was mayor of Gloucester three times, and was elected to parliament in 1613.

This monument is to Elizabeth Williams (d1622) who died in childbirth, an effigy of a baby in its chrisom shroud lies by her side. Her sister also died in childbirth a year later and a monument to her is nearby. Both monuments are the work of Samuel Baldwin of Stroud.

This monument is to Margery Clent (d1623) who died in childbirth. Her sister also died in childbirth a year later and a monument to her is nearby.

Semi reclining stone figure of Cavalier in recess. Henry Kingsmill was killed at the battle of Edgehill Sunday, 23 October 1642. This was the first pitch battle of the English Civil War.

 

 

Judge John Powell - Gloucester Cathedral

This marble monument to Judge John Powell (d1714) is by Thomas Green of Camberwell. John Powell presided over the trial of Jane Wenham, one of the last people convicted of witchcraft in England.
