The church at Saint Romain sur Cher was rebult in the C16 and restored in the C19. The north and south walls of the apse are painted with scenes of the Decapitation of John the Baptist ⓘ and the Baptism of Christ on the north wall, and on the south wall is the Resurrection. Both of these paintings were restored in 1859.
The east window of the parish church of St Margaret, Crick, is a large multi-light stained-glass composition dated 1857, by Lavers & Barraud1, and predates the appointment of Nathaniel Westlake as principal designer at the firm. Occupying the principal liturgical position, the window presents a carefully structured theological programme combining figures of prophecy, witness, and redemption.
Constructed between 1437 and 1521, the Church of Saint-Maclou occupies a central place in Rouen’s urban and spiritual landscape. The façade, rising before the narrow medieval streets, is one of the most refined expressions of the Flamboyant Gothic, a style characterized by intricate tracery, dynamic ornament, and an almost musical rhythm of line.
