Richard I Captured by Duke Leopold V of Austria 1192

On the 21st of December 1192 Richard I of England was captured, by officers of Duke Leopold V of Austria, near Vienna in the village of Erdberg.1 Richard is held for ransom of 150,000 marks the payment of which is thought to have been instrumental in the eventual loss of the Angevin empire.
