Louis IX of France dies 1270

On the 25th of August 1270 Louis IX of France, whilst participating in the Eight Crusade, died in Tunis, North Africa. He is succeeded by his son Philip III of France.1

Louis was buried in the St Denis Basilica, and in 1297 he was canonized by Pope Boniface VIII at Orvieto.2
