Eleanor of Castile wife of Edward I dies 1290

On the 28th of November 1290, Eleanor of Castile, wife of Edward I, died near Lincoln at the village of Harby, Nottinghamshire. Her body was taken to London for burial at Westminster Abbey on 17 December 1290. Between 1291 and 1294 Edward I had an ornate stone cross erect to mark the twelve places that her body stopped each evening on its journey from Harby, to London.
