Justice Theme Pages

Justice is one of the four cardinal virtues of the Ancient World. It is mostly shown as a woman holding a sword and scales.

Part of the base of the tomb of the cardinals of Amboise in Rouen Cathedral this figure of Justice was sculpted between 1515 and 1525 by Roullant Le Roux.

The carved wooden panel representing Justice, with sword and scales, can be found as part of the reredos in the church of St Lawrence Shotteswell, Warwickshire. The reredos is constructed of a number of wooden 17th century Flemish panels.

 

This figure of justice that stands above the Central Criminal Court (Old Bailey) in London was sculpted by Frederick William Pomeroy in 1905-06. Made of gilt bronze its is a 3.65m figure standing on a a1.5m sphere, the sword is 2.3m high.
