This allegorical figure of death holding a scythe and hourglass is part of the monument, by Nicolas Blasset, dedicated to Amiens Magistrate Jean de Sachy (d1644).

The sculpture is of detailed marble memorial featuring a carved skeleton lying on a draped cloth, symbolizing death or mortality. The skeleton is positioned centrally, with its head resting on a pillow and one arm bent across its chest. The theme of the work is a memento mori (remember you must die).
