Miramella

This genus of grasshoppers, belonging to the family Acrididae, is primarily found across the mountainous and alpine regions of Europe and Asia. Members of Miramella are generally small to medium-sized insects, often displaying vivid green or brown hues that blend seamlessly with their grassy or rocky surroundings. Adapted to cool, high-altitude habitats, these grasshoppers are agile jumpers and capable fliers, relying on their coloration and swift movements for protection against predators. The forewings are typically patterned in subtle, mottled tones, providing effective camouflage among vegetation and stones, while the hindwings, though less conspicuous, support rapid flight. Species such as Miramella alpina, M. irena, and M. carinthiaca are among the best known, each adapted to specific mountain ranges. Like most members of Acrididae, Miramella species are herbivorous, feeding primarily on grasses and low alpine plants, and play an important role in the ecosystems they inhabit.
