The Snakeflies (Raphidioptera) are a family of insects that are listed within the sub-order Megaloptera. These insects are predatory in both the larvae and adult stages, and are completely terrestrial, and the female has a large ovipositor with which she places her eggs under loose bark. The UK has four of the twenty European species, and there are about 210 species worldwide.
