In March 415 a mob in Alexandria, fired up by the Christian Bishop Cyril, ordered the mathematician, atronomer, and philosopher, Hypatia from her horse and drag her to a nearby church, stripped her naked and with shards of broken pottery flayed her skin from her flesh.1
