This painting, 1511, currently in the Kunsthistorisches museum, Vienna, is by Hans Holbein the Elder, and before that it was held in the monastery of St. Paul im Lavanttal, Carinthia.
The painting depicts the Virgin and Child with Mary holding a Pomegranate. The Pomegranite is used here as a symbol of resurrection and eternal life. Whilst the coral beads that the boy is holding pressages the crucifixion.
