Bishop John Stanbury - Hereford Cathedral.

This carved alabaster monument of Bishop John Stanbury contains his effigy and has saints and angels as mourners carrying shields around all sides. Unfortunately the heads of the angels were chipped off during the reformation.

 

 

Bishop Richard Mayew - Hereford Cathedral.

This tomb in the South choir contains the effigy of Bishop Richard Mayew (d1516) under an elaborate canopy, and with weepers around the base. The weepers are thought to represent saints and were damaged during the reformation.

 

 

Denton family tomb - Hereford Cathedral

This alabaster monument to Alexander Denton and his wife Anne (nee Willison), dates from about 1566. Anne his wife and the child by her side are the only ones that are buried here.

 

Sir Richard Pembridge - Hereford Cathedral

Sir Richard Pembridge (d1375) was one of the earliest Knights of the Garter, being elected following the death of Thomas Ufford in 1368. He was present at all of Edward III's major victories during the Hundred Years War: Sluys (1340), Creçy (1346), the Siege of Calais (1347), and Poiters (1356) where he fought alongside the Black Prince.
