Resurrection - Gloucester Cathedral

 

This Hardman window from the mid 1860s depicts the resurrection. Christ rises from the tomb with the soldiers on guard recoiling on either side.

 

Richard de Beauchamp, 1st Earl of Worcester - Tewkesbury Abbey

This two storied tomb for Richard de Beauchamp, 1st Earl of Worcester (d1421) was built in 1430 by his wife Lady Isabel le Despenser, the great grand-daughter of Edward III. It was probably meant to contain priant figures of both Richard, Isabel, and her second husband Richard de Beauchamp, 13th Earl of Warwick, who was her first husband's cousin.

 

 

Robert Fitzhamon

 

Robert Fitzhamon, also known as fitzHamio, (d1107) was the founder of Tewkesbury Abbey in 1102. He had been given the manor of Tewkesbury as a reward for supporting William II as king of England during the Rebellion of 1088. He also fought alongside Henry I against Henry's brother Robert Curthose . His great granddaughter Isabel of Gloucester became the first wife of John of England .

Salvator Mundi - Gloucester Cathedral

 

 

This window by Hardman & Co., illustrates a Salvator Mundi in the typanum, whilst below are three panels depicting St Agnes, The Virgin Mary , and St Dorothy.

 

 

 

Sarah Morley monument - Gloucester Cathedral.

 

 

This monument by John Flaxman is to Sarah Morley (d1784) who died a few days after giving birth whilst travelling back to England from India. Both Sarah and her child were buried at sea.

  

 

South Ambulatory Chapel - Gloucester Cathedral

Installed in October 1992, these three windows, reflecting on Psalm 148 and John 20:24-29, are located in the South Ambulatory Chapel of Gloucester Cathedral, and are by Tom Denny.
