This section of stained glass (c1210) is part of a larger window illustrating the life of the 6th century bishop of Chartres Saint Lubin (Leobinus). The panels around the roundel depict Lubin's early peasant life. Scenes showing him as a shepherd in the fields and how he learnt to read and write after a monk gave him a belt containing the alphabet. The depiction of wine is a major theme in this window the central roundel in these panels shows it being transported in barrels.
