Thomas Becket becomes Archbishop of Canterbury 1162

On the 23rd of May 1162 Thomas à Becket ⓘ was confirmed as the Archbishop of Canterbury, and was ordained a priest on the 2nd of June.
In his youth Thomas had been employed by the Archbishop of Canterbury Theobald of Bec who had been sent him on a number of missions and had him trained in canon law at Bologna and Auxerre. His work for Theobald led to Theobald recommending him for the post of Lord Chancellor.1
