Birth of Cain

The Portail des Libraires was a private entrance for priests into the cathedral in the north transept of the cathedral. The door was built between 1278 and 1300 and on each side are some 200 carved quatrefoils depicting grotesques, fanciful monsters, animals, harpies, satyrs, and biblical stories from Genesis.
