This tomb in Worcester Cathedral is of Lord George Lyttelton (d1876) by James Forsyth.

Lord Lyttelton was a Conservative politician in the 1846 government of Robert Peel. In 1850 he established the Canterbury colony on New Zealand's south island with Anglican colonists.

 

Prone to depression he committed suicide by throwing himself down the stairs at the family home in Portland Place, London. He was related to the Earl Spencer's on his mother's side and is the grandfather of Jazz musician and broadcaster Humphrey Lyttelton.
