Rivulinae is a subfamily of Erebidea moths. They are a relatively small and somewhat obscure group that have some distinctive features, and were previously placed in the Noctuidae family. Small to medium-sized moths, and typically with muted colouration (gray, brown, or ochre tones). Many have subtle wavy or mottled patterns that help them blend with bark or dead leaves. The forewings tend to be narrow and elongated with slightly hooked or rounded tips, the hindwings are usually paler and less patterned. The caterpillars are are typically smooth and cylindrical, and feed on a variety of plants, including ferns, monocots, and dicots. Some species are known to feed on low-growing vegetation.
