Elachistidae is a family of micro moths that is currently undergoing revision. The genra Agonopterix and Depressaria used to be included in this family but have recently moved to the Depressariidae family. These are small moths, with wingspans typically 10–15 mm. The forewings are usually dark brown, grayish, or blackish, often with contrasting white spots, streaks, or patches. The hindwings are narrower, generally gray to dark gray, with long fringes. The caterpillars are specialized feeders, often boring into plant tissues such as shoots, fruits, or pith. Many of the species are associated with woody Rosaceae (apple, pear, hawthorn, cherry, etc.).
