Papal legate Peter of Castelnau is murder 1208

On the 14th of January 1208 the Papal Legate Peter of Castlenau is murdered on the banks of the Petit Rhône river. Rumours spread that Raymond VI of Toulouse has praised the murderer, and is blamed for having ordered it. When the news reaches Rome, Pope Innocent III excommunicates Raymond VI and launches the Albigensian Crusade. Later Innocent III admits that there was no more than suspicion that Raymond had been involved.
