    Fire destroys Romanesque cathedral of Chartres 1194

 On the 10th of June 1194 fire causes extensive damage to the Romanesque cathedral of Chartres that had been built by Bishop Fulbert in 1020. The damage gives the opportunity to rebuild the cathedral in the new Gothic Style. The undamaged towers and western facade are incorporated into the new building.
