Luca della Robbia
Active: c. 1430–1482
Luca della Robbia was a Florentine sculptor best known for developing glazed terracotta as a major artistic medium of the Renaissance. Combining sculptural clarity with luminous, durable surfaces, he created works suited to civic, ecclesiastical, and domestic settings. Through both his own production and the workshop he founded, Luca established a visual language of restraint, harmony, and devotional accessibility that became one of the most influential sculptural traditions of fifteenth-century Florence.
