Medieval Effigy Cross Legged Knight Crusader

 

Monument to Robert de Harcourt (d1205). The effigy of a cross legged knight is mid 13th century. His head rests on a pillow and his feet on a lion. Dressed in chain mail with a sword and helmet, and holding a shield.

 

Following the peace treaty of  Goulet (1200) between King John of England and Philip II of France,1 was designated King John's surety and hostage. His tomb in Worcester cathedral is in the South-East Transept not far from that of the tomb of King John.
