This Order of insects with over 17,000 species, of which 650 are found mostly in southern Europe, the UK has just 30 species. The order consists of the Grasshoppers, Crickets, and Locusts. They are large insects with a blunt head and saddle shaped pronotum.

 

 

 

The Sarcophagidae are know as flesh flies, as some species lay their eggs in the open wounds of other animals. However, most of the species lay their eggs in carrion. dung, or decaying material.
