Papacy of Pope Celestine III begins 1191

Following the death of Pope Clement III, Giacinto Bobone is elected as Pope Celestine III. During his papacy he crowned the Holy Roman Emperor Henry VI and also excommunicated him for keep Richard I of England a former crusader imprisoned. He also confirmed the statutes of the Teutonic Knights as a military order.
