Joan at the Stake

In 1893 the painter Jacque Galland and glassmaker Esprit Gibelin won a competition to create 10 stained glass windows, at Orleans Cathedral, depicting the life of Joan of Arc.

The windows were installed into the north and south aisles of nave, five scenes on either side, and cover Joan's life from the time that she heard voices, until her death at the stake in the market square of Rouen.
