5.5 to 6.5 mm in length, with a very striking yellow and black markings which makes it instantly recognizable. The black patterning is variable and rarely are the forewings entirely yellow. The wings are distinctly shorter than the abdomen in females. Fairly common throughout the UK and found widely in grasslands and scrub and acan be a problem in agriculture as they suck the sap of plants and destroy the plants by transmitting pathogenic agents.
