Monument in white marble, designed by GG Scott, to Bishop Walter Kerr Hamilton (d1869), Salisbury Cathedral

Bishop Hamilton was a close lifelong friend of William Gladstone, who he had met when they were both at Eton in the 1820s. In 1853 he wrote a pamphlet on cathedral reform and when he became Bishop of Salisbury made the cathedral more accessible to the public and encouraged its popular use.
