Tomb of Robert Wylde and Wife - Worcester Cathedral

This tomb of Robert Wylde (d1607) and wife Margaret, is in the south aisle of Worcester Cathedral. In consists of two effigies laying on mats with their heads on cushions. Both are wearing black and dressed in a late Elizabethan style with ruff collars.
The Wylde's were a prominent family in Worcester in the 16th and 17th centuries, who had made there fortune from the textile industry. They were so successful that Robert's father had bought the Commandery in 1545 as a family home. The Commandery had been a monastic hospital that had been established by St Wulfstan in the 11th century when he was bishop of Worcester and was one of the last monastic instutions to be dissolved by Henry VIII.
